Play, by design
It is important to consider free, open spaces in designing schools for young children. I have been fascinated by how countries and cultures conceive play and design structures that invite creativity.
La Paz Community School has thoughtfully centered a mini soccer field, climbing gym, slides and swings in the courtyard for grades PreK-5 to frequent during daily recess and mini recreos.
Part of the responsibility as a visiting educator is to supervise students at play in this very space. Imagine it full of children, playing, singing, and smiling as you observe and relish in their joy!
